The university offers several music performances each year featuring a range of styles from classical works to popular songs to traditional Christmas music to show tunes. Concerts feature The Newman Chorale, and The Newman Troubadours, a select auditioned ensemble that also performs in other venues across Kansas and the nation.
THEATRE
The theatre program returns to Newman in fall 2011 with the first staging of what will be an annual dramatic theatrical performance. In spring 2012, Newman will begin producing an annual musical. The university presents other shows through the year featuring local and regional productions as well as national tours.
VISUAL ARTS
The Steckline Gallery presents exhibits each month through the academic year featuring a variety of artists, media and styles. Exhibit openings are typically part of the “Final Friday” gallery crawl. The gallery also holds an “Art for Lunch” presentation for most exhibits, many of which feature the artist and include a limited free lunch. The Steckline Gallery is located inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus.
Newman University also sponsors an annual literary festival, conferences, readings, programs, artist and author appearances and other events throughout the year. For the most current information, visit the Newman Campus Calendar at http://calendar.newmanu.edu/main.php.
